Coalville Town 0-2 Nuneaton Borough

Tuesday 6th December 2022,

Nuneaton would test goalkeeper Paul White early as chances fell to both Kane Richards and ex-Raven Tyrell Waite. However it would be Luke Benbow who would open the scoring after a move down the right was finished with a low driven effort into the corner after 8 minutes. Making his first start for some time was Charlie Dowd who marked his return to the starting eleven with a goal that doubled the Boro’s lead almost ten minutes after the opener. The youngster smashed the ball in off the crossbar. Coalville began to find their way into the game with McGlinchey firing over and Kee flicking wide before a smart save from Tony Breeden denied McGlinchey. Benbow had a chance to further the lead but the quick counter was ended by a shot that was blazed high and wide.

Half Time 0-2

Coalville came out of the blocks in the second half forcing multiple saves out of Breeden. The first was a low shot from Thanoj which was pushed away. Thanoj would have yet another shot saved before the rebound was finished by ex-Boro forward Ashley Chambers before being disallowed by the linesman’s flag. At the other end, White was able to hold on to a shot from Richards that stopped the visitors from adding to their lead. George Wilson had the chance to peg back the visitors as the ball fell to him on the edge of the box but he fired over. Tyrell Waite was hungry for a goal against his former side but he could only rattle the bar late on.

Full Time 2-0

THOUGHTS FROM THE GAFFA

The Gaffer would like to commend the boys on last nights performance, from the first whistle you could see the boys intent on pressing Coalville's back four and it paid dividends as both Benbow and Charlie Dowd smashing in a goal apiece inside 20 mins, That lead to Coalville chasing the game but with our back four and keeper in top form, we nullified the Coalville free scoring front line to probably just 3 goal scoring opportunities. We had the Boro Bounce back ability on show last night and I think we owed our loyal supporters and sponsors that performance after Saturdays drab game at Barwell Onwards and upwards but it don’t get any easier as we must try and get something from the new league title favourites Leiston town fc at home this coming Saturday There unbeaten in 15 games now and are brushing aside any team in front of them So it’s gunna be a very tough one. Up the boro JG.
